2. Is AdColony compliant with the amended COPPA regulation?

Yes. However we need your help. Publishers with apps directed to children have additional responsibilities to maintain the confidentiality, security, and integrity of information they collect from children. One such responsibility includes giving providers of outside services, such as AdColony, actual knowledge of any apps that are subject to COPPA, so AdColony can properly handle the data it receives from that app. In other words, it is your responsibility under COPPA to inform us if your apps are directed to children. You may wish to consult with counsel to help determine which (if any) of your apps are child-directed, or otherwise subject to COPPA. Note that this does not mean AdColony cannot provide you with ads for those apps. Contextually targeted ads are permissible under COPPA. But AdColony must handle the data it receives from those apps differently. Therefore, it is critical that our app publishers tell us which of their apps are child-directed under COPPA.

The following instructions provide the information you need to indicate which (if any) of your apps are subject to the amended rule for COPPA. A PDF document of this information can be found here.

3. How do I manage my apps in compliance of COPPA on AdColony’s ad and analytics platform?

AdColony has added an option on our client dashboard under the “Edit App” details page to notify us of your application which may be child-directed pursuant to COPPA. Please update any apps as soon as possible if you have not already done so.

— Step 1
Navigate to the “Edit App” Page for the app in question.

— Step 2
Navigate to the Childrens Online Privacy and Protection Act (COPPA) Options Section.

— Step 3
Click the checkbox to indicate that your app is directed to children under the age of 13.

— Step 4
Click the “Save” button at the bottom of the page.

— Step 5
Repeat these steps for any additional apps which are child-directed subject to the new COPPA rules.
